Apple TV to Broadcast First MLS Game Shot Entirely on iPhone 17 Pro This Saturday

Apple TV is set to make history this Saturday, May 23, by streaming an entire Major League Soccer match captured exclusively on iPhone 17 Pro devices. The broadcast, featuring LA Galaxy versus Houston Dynamo FC, marks the first time iPhones will be used to shoot an entire major professional live sporting event for broadcast.
How iPhone 17 Pro Will Capture the Match
Apple will deploy 15 iPhone 17 Pro units throughout Dignity Health Sports Park to capture every angle. Each device features three 48MP Fusion cameras with Apple Log 2 video capture for broadcast-quality footage.
Why This Matters for Live Sports Production
The move signals a potential shift in how live sports content is produced. Traditional broadcasts rely on expensive bulky camera rigs. By proving a full professional match can be captured with smartphones, Apple is demonstrating that high-quality sports production may become more accessible.
From Baseball to Soccer
Apple first integrated iPhone into live sports during a September 2025 Friday Night Baseball matchup. The National Baseball Hall of Fame later added an iPhone used in that broadcast to its permanent collection. Following that success, Apple expanded to MLS Cup 2025 and regular-season broadcasts throughout 2026.
What Viewers Can Expect
Fans tuning in at 7:30 p.m. PT Saturday will see the game from unusual angles inside goal nets, along sideline barriers, and in warmup areas. The iPhone 17 Pro small form factor allows placement where conventional cameras cannot fit.
The Bigger Picture
If successful, this experiment could open the door for smartphone-based sports coverage, lowering barriers for smaller leagues and events without traditional broadcast infrastructure.
